Travel options:
From Colombo International Airport:
By car/taxi is the most direct option, or use a ride-sharing service like Uber to drive directly to Mirissa, which takes about 2-3 hours.
You can also take a bus from the airport to Colombo, then connect to a bus or train to Mirissa. This is the cheaper option.
Accreditation:
Belgian physiotherapists can earn 24 accreditation points by joining this Physio Camp.

Choose a Room:
You can choose between 4 room types:

Day 1 – Sunday
Arrive in Mirissa and settle into your accommodation. In the evening, join the group for a welcome meeting and dinner to kick off the week and connect with fellow participants.
Day 2 – Monday
Start the day with breakfast, followed by the first session of the Hip and Groin Physiotherapy Course in the morning. In the afternoon, hit the waves with your first guided surf lesson. The day wraps up with dinner at one of Mirissa’s local restaurants.
Day 3 – Tuesday
After breakfast, continue with day two of the Hip Course. The afternoon brings another fun and active surf session. Enjoy the evening with a group dinner at a different local spot, soaking in the beach-town atmosphere.
Day 4 – Wednesday
Enjoy breakfast before heading into the third session of the Hip Course. Surfing follows in the afternoon, with expert guidance tailored to your level. Cap off the day with dinner and a chance to share stories from the waves.
Day 5 – Thursday
Fuel up with breakfast, then attend the final session of the Hip and Groin Course. Spend the afternoon surfing your last waves of the camp, followed by a celebratory dinner in town with the group.
Day 6 – Friday
Say goodbye to Mirissa and your new friends as the camp concludes. Depart with fresh knowledge, new connections, and unforgettable memories from your time in Sri Lanka.

Over this four-day course, Michael will provide an in-depth understanding of the causes of hip and groin pain, various pathophysiology, assessment techniques, and effective treatment tools. Embedded in the latest evidence-based practice, this course will be supported by real-life case studies and ample practical time to fine-tune assessment and treatment skills that can be immediately incorporated into clinical practice.

Summary of Both Days & Round Table Discussion
Dr. Michael O’Brien recently completed his PhD investigating impairments and outcomes in adults with Hip Dysplasia and is now working as a research fellow, setting up a national hip dysplasia registry and an RCT comparing physiotherapy and surgery for young adults with hip dysplasia.

He also works clinically at Melbourne Orthopaedic Group (MOG) Sports Medicine as part of The Hip and Groin Clinic, alongside leading clinicians, orthopaedic surgeons, and sports doctors. He provides regular education sessions and has presented at many international conferences and teaches regularly on the Master of Physiotherapy courses at La Trobe University.
He has worked as a physiotherapist for over 15 years across professional and recreational sport (primarily Soccer), hip and groin research, and various international clinical settings.
1. Who is this camp ideal for?
This camp is designed for physiotherapists and surfing enthusiasts who are curious about advancing their knowledge in hip and groin physiotherapy, while also enjoying the chance to surf and connect with like-minded individuals from around the world. It’s a great mix of professional development, movement, and fun! No prior surf experience needed!
2. Do I need to know how to surf?
Not at all. The surfing sessions are completely beginner-friendly and adapted to your skill level. Whether it’s your first time on a board or you’ve surfed before, our experienced instructors will guide you every step of the way to ensure you feel safe, supported, and stoked.
3. What is included in the cost of the camp?
Your camp experience includes 5 nights of accommodation, a 4-part half-day course focused on hip and groin physiotherapy, and 4 surf lessons led by qualified instructors. Daily breakfasts are also included.
4. Is the course accredited?
Yes, you will receive a certificate of attendance worth 16 CPD hours. Only Belgian physiotherapists can get accreditation points by joining this Physio Camp.

5. What is the refund or cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 60 days before the camp start date are eligible for a full refund. If you cancel between 30 and 60 days before the camp, you’ll receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, cancellations made less than 30 days before the start date are non-refundable.
