As someone who loves cycling, I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to spend a week than riding around the beautiful roads of Girona with a group of physiotherapists from all over the world. Spending a week riding, learning, and meeting like-minded people sounded like the perfect way to spend my time.
I’ll admit it, I’ve always found it hard to take time off without feeling a bit guilty. I always feel like I should be working or doing something productive. But this week completely changed the way I see that.
The days had a really good balance between learning and having fun, and everything was taken care of for us, which made it so easy to just enjoy the experience.

Every morning started with an amazing breakfast prepared by our private chef before we headed into The Cycling Course with Bryan McCullough. We learned about common cycling injuries, biomechanics, and the basics of bike fitting. What I liked most was how practical everything was. We weren’t just sitting in a classroom, we were discussing different cases, asking questions, and applying what we were learning straight away. It made everything much easier to understand and remember.

Then came lunch (lots of carbs, of course), again prepared for us by Drago, our amazing chef, before heading out for the best part of the day— the ride!
Cycling around Girona is honestly something every cyclist should experience at least once. Dan led the rides and took us through quiet roads, rolling hills, and some incredible scenery. Every ride felt different, and you never get tired of the views. The groups were split based on ability, so everyone could ride at a pace that suited them. If you wanted to push yourself, you could. If you just wanted to enjoy the ride, that was completely fine too. There was never any pressure, just a really supportive atmosphere.

After spending hours riding in the Spanish sun, coming back to the villa and jumping straight into the pool became one of the highlights of the day. It was the perfect way to cool off, and of course we’d end up talking about the ride: what went well, who suffered the most on the climbs, and which café stop was the best!

Staying together in the villa made the whole experience even better. Instead of everyone heading off to different hotels at the end of the day, we all lived under one roof for the week. We shared meals cooked by our chef, sat around chatting after dinner, swapped stories from the rides, talked about physio, and got to know each other properly. Those moments outside of the course were just as memorable as the riding itself.
One of my favourite parts of the week was meeting people from all over the world. There were serious triathletes, long-distance junkies, and others who were just there for the love of cycling, the views, and the coffee stops. Even though everyone came from different backgrounds, we all had the same passion for cycling and learning.

Everything was so well organised that all we had to do was wake up, eat, learn, ride, recover, and enjoy ourselves. It made the whole week completely stress-free.
By the end of it, I went home with new clinical knowledge, a much better understanding of cycling biomechanics, more confidence as a physio, some great new friendships, and memories that I’ll definitely remember for a long time.
It also reminded me why I enjoy being a physiotherapist in the first place.
Taking a week away from work didn’t set me back at all. If anything, it was exactly what I needed.
